Overview
Ghost Burgers And Grill sits quietly at Unit 2/80 Hazel Glen Dr, Doreen VIC 3754, Australia, but the moment you step inside-or open the takeaway bag at home-you realize this place doesn’t do quiet food. I first tried it on a late Friday night when most local kitchens were closing, and that alone set the tone. The grill was still hot, the staff unhurried but focused, and the smell of smashed beef patties hit before the menu even did.
The menu leans confidently into comfort food, but it’s not careless comfort. Burgers are built with intention, from the way the buns are lightly toasted to the way sauces are layered instead of dumped. One staff member explained how patties are cooked on a flat-top grill to lock in moisture, a method backed by food science research showing high-heat searing improves flavor through the Maillard reaction. That reaction isn’t just chef talk-it’s well documented in food chemistry studies referenced by organizations like the CSIRO, which has published extensively on cooking methods and flavor development.
A standout for me was the double cheeseburger with caramelized onions. It’s rich, sure, but balanced. The salt level stays reasonable, which matters more than people think. According to Food Standards Australia New Zealand, Australians already consume more sodium than recommended, so it’s refreshing to find a diner-style place that doesn’t rely on excess salt to carry flavor. The fries were crisp outside, fluffy inside, clearly cooked in clean oil and rested properly before serving. That small detail is often skipped, yet it makes a massive difference in texture.
Reviews around Doreen often mention consistency, and that’s not accidental. One of the cooks mentioned they follow a tight prep routine every morning, weighing patties and portioning sauces in advance. This mirrors practices used in high-performing casual dining chains, where consistency is directly tied to customer trust. The Australian Bureau of Statistics has reported that repeat visits are one of the strongest indicators of restaurant success, and places like this show why.
What also stands out is how the space works for different dining styles. You’ll see families grabbing an early dinner, tradies stopping in after work, and late-night takeaway orders flying out the door. The location makes it easy for locals, but the food is what keeps people coming back. Even delivery holds up well, which isn’t easy with burgers. Packaging is sturdy, vents are placed to avoid sogginess, and portions arrive intact, not crushed.
I asked about sourcing, and while not everything is local, the team was upfront about it. They prioritize freshness over labels, which is honest and practical. There’s no claim of perfection here, and that transparency builds trust. If you’re expecting fine dining theatrics, you won’t find them. What you will find is bold, well-executed food that respects both the customer and the craft.
People often describe the place as bold flavors done right, and that sums it up. Another regular at the counter called it comfort food without the regret, which felt accurate after finishing a full meal without feeling weighed down. The grill-focused approach, clear processes, and steady reviews all point to a diner that knows exactly what it is and doesn’t pretend to be anything else.

The food was absolutely amazing!!! The food was of very high quality and amazing value. The female worker who served us tonight was very friendly and engaging and kept checking on us to make sure we were happy with the food. We will come back here again in the future!
Cheep beer and massive menu. Loaded Dog messy! great take away spot to drink while they get it ready
First time dining at Ghost Burger. We went after the lunch hour so it was quite empty. We were greeted by a friendly staff when we walked in. We ordered the Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich and an Italian Chicken Parma with ham. The Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich was $16 and if you are $6 you get a drink and chips included in the meal. The buns were warm and soft. There was a generous amount of steaks in the sandwich however it was overcooked so it was dry, tough and some bits were very chewy. Hence the 4 stars rating. The Chicken Parma was $24 but you have to add on the ham for an extra $2. One thing to note is that it includes chips and salad. When you order through the app, the description didn't state that chips and salad was included so we order a side of chips. I only found out after I ordered when I arrived with the staff and found out that chips are already included. When you scroll down it asked if you wanted to add on a side of chips so that was why we thought chips were not included. Of the restaurant could update the description that would be great. Overall we had a good dining experience. Staff was friendly and even came to ask us how the food was. The restaurant was spacious and clean too. We will come back to try the burgers and other items in the menu next time we are in the area.
Tasty burgers and great service. The interior is also so vibey with retro diner feel.
